04/12/08 - FLAGSTAFF, AZ - The project team formally kicked off Flagstaff Pathways – the FMPO Regional Transportation Plan Update – with a series of community engagement events the week of April 7th – 11th. During this time, the project team convened a steering committee meeting, six meetings with diverse groups of stakeholders throughout the region, and two public workshops.

The objectives for each meeting were to formally introduce Flagstaff Pathways, and most importantly, to obtain input on important issues, challenges, opportunities, and key values that the planning process should address. Each meeting featured meaningful dialogue and specific input; collectively, hundreds of individual comments were received throughout the week’s events. While the feedback received covered a broad and diverse breadth of issues, several common themes began to emerge.

Some of these include:

» Protecting the uniqueness and livability of neighborhoods

» Keep the small-town character of Flagstaff

» Maintaining the natural landscapes of Flagstaff
» Protecting the quality and access to outdoor recreation
» Addressing congestion on Milton Road / major arterials
» Creating more north/south corridors

» Creating grade-separations across the Railroad
» Expanding convenient and safe travel choices
» Land use and transportation planning for sustainability

Too a large extent these are in keeping with the existing
Flagstaff Area Regional Land Use and Transportation Plan.
